D minus 1

Tomorrow is our big day!  This morning we got a call from Untours this morning with an update. St. Goar, the town where will be staying in Germany, has been affected by all the rain that has been occurring the last several weeks. While the flooding is not as serious there as in other areas, the Rhine has flooded in the town and access to our apartment will be a bit tough as the landlord has had to create a walkway with boards to get into the building.

Untours offered to find us another apartment, although it would probably be with a landlord with whom they have never worked. We decided that we were ready for an adventure so we would just keep our plans in place and stay in the original apartment.

Since the grocery and restaurants in St. Goar may be closed due to the flooding, our landlord is willing to take us to the next town to shop for groceries. How neat to get to shop with a native.

From what we have been reading, the flood waters are receding, so we don't think there will be much impact on our plans. The train service isn't affected so we can always get away if we need to.

What an exciting way to start!

Here's some info about the flooding.
