Day 5 - The Rain Came And Stayed A While

Today we had our first rainy day. We went across the Rhine to St. Goarshausen on the ferry and were caught in a downpour.

We found the only open bakery (it was Sunday!) and rushed inside for some hot coffee and an emergency pastry

before heading back across the river to our apartment and some dry and warm.

We spent a couple of hours drying off and warming up, then went for a stroll up the river.

We had dinner in an Asian restaurant at the only table not in their flooded basement dining room. The service was great!

Since we don't have a lot of photos from today, we thought we would show you the unusual windows in our apartment.  With the handle pointing down, the window is closed:

With the handle pointed to the side, the window swings open like a door:

With the handle pointed up, the window opens from the top for ventilation but keeps the rain out:

For some reason there is a window in the wall between the hallway and the bathroom (I think there should be some mystery to life!):

Tomorrow we're planning to travel to Bonn and Cologne - in the sunshine!
