We had an adventure getting to Leiden today. Because of multiple issues, including effects of the flooding in other areas of Germany and a power outage at one of our destination terminals, we had to get off trains at stops we had not expected. Trying to listen to the announcements in a language that we did not understand was another challenge. Thank heavens for the kindness of strangers! We were so relieved to find we had wifi on our last train so we could use Skype to reach our contact in Leiden to let her know we were delayed
Once we got here, what a delight it was to get to our apartment. Untours had flowers and a welcome basket.
The apartment itself is quite charming, as it was built in the 18th century. Here are some photos of the place.
And we could hardly wait to get out to look around. It took us a couple of tries, but we found our way around pretty quickly. What a quaint and charming place.
Out our back gate:
inside.
We had Chinese food tonight. Well, it was a mixture of Asian foods: satay and fried rice, curried chicken, roast pork and Chinese noodles. The warmers were a nice touch.
